L'Eco di Bergamo has always been at the forefront of the Italian press: it was, for example, the country’s first newspaper to introduce colour. When it decided to change to Berliner format it used the opportunity to redesign itself. The paper had a twin aim: to continue to be a credible and prestigious newspaper, with popular support and closely linked to its roots, but also to take a leap ahead towards modernity. A year later the changes spread to the design of the group’s other papers.
