In the Brazilian newspaper market the broadsheet format dominates, while the compact format is feared to be directly related with tabloid journalism. The Grupo Rede Gazeta, from Vitoria, decided to break from this norm and transformed its main publication –A Gazeta– into a tabloid, a change that meant also changing the way the page was conceived graphically. This was not a question of popularising the newspaper, but rather renovating it, modernising both graphically and in the newsroom, and transforming it into a product that was easy to read and to handle.
